A personal project, highlighting independent women, recycling and the number 9.

I call these my papiermache-mosaics, because of the materials and how they are used in their creation.

Measuring 30x30 cms, they are built up in relief using papier-mâché. Decoration, uses recycled 'trash’ and acrylic paint and is often repetitive, like a mosaic.

The choice of women as the central theme, stems from my interest in showing the passion, versatility, creativity and multi-faceted nature, inherent in womankind.

Why 9?

The number 9 has magical, meditative and religious qualities and is seen as a symbol of harmony, inspiration and perfection. In many cultures it is considered sacred, with a reference to eternity.

9 Women were exhibited: 01/05/2011 - 31/07/2011 at The Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, the Netherlands.
